1989–90 Dynamo Dresden season

The 1989–90 season was a hugely successful one for Dynamo Dresden, with the club retaining the league title and adding a cup win to complete the double. Their season was built largely on very strong home form, with eleven wins, one draw and one defeat at the Rudolf-Harbig-Stadion. Away from home, they were hard to beat but didn't win much either - in almost perfect symmetry, they won one, drew eleven and lost one on the road.
Despite this successful season, coach Eduard Geyer was sacked in April after the players revolted against his disciplinarian methods. He was replaced by former player Reinhard Häfner.
Torsten Gütschow's 18 goals made him the league's top scorer, while his strike partner Ulf Kirsten was named as East German Footballer of the Year.
